International work in Lahti Lutheran parish union

The main purpose of immigration work is to reform the rights based on christian religion, partnership and the love of fellowman in the lives of individuals in the society and globally. We want to support individuals and families who are not able to survive the immigration to the countries and challenges of the naturalization on their own . We also want to serve and help all immigrants regardless of their religion group or the way of immigrating.

Refreshment Activities

Lahti Parish Council offers wide range of activities and functions to immigrants and invites them to silent prayers in front the God. At the same time it offers sense of solidarity and friendship.

Support personnel for the immigrants

The function and work of support personnel to the immigrants is very extensive and active at the Lahti Parish Council. New basic courses are organised approximately once a year. Regular monthly meetings are organised to the volunteers. They provide situations which are educational as well as happenings where consultation and support is needed. Support personnel are provided with peer group support, information and refreshment activities.

The importance of support personnel is extremely important when new immigrants are settling down. The Finnish support person is offering a safe and reliable relationship and an opportunity to learn and speak Finnish language. In addition to that support person is serving and opening a door to the Finnish society and culture. The interaction and sharing is mutual and everybody is treated as equals and being foreign is respected.

More information is given by immigrant worker Jaana Hongisto, tel. 044 719 1263.

International student, welcome to Lahti!

In Lahti lutheran parish union we have two student pastors, Riku and Sonja. You can find them at Kirkkokatu 7, in a nice old house near the Church of the Cross.

Student pastors are there for you if you want to discuss about life, troubles, reasons for joy...you name it. You don´t have to be a member of any church. Meetings with us don't cost anything and are confidential.
